Was Kenny Chesney Set to Purchase East Tennessee Mansion Damaged By Fire
It has been ‘rumored‘ that the mystery person behind the purchase of the 28million dollar luxury home known as the Crantzdorf Estate that burned this weekend in Johnson City, Tennessee may be country music singer Kenny Chesney who has ties to the area.
The estate which was listed in luxuryhomes.com was built by an area car dealer Steve Grindstaff and his wife Ashley. According to authorities, the fire was the result of a lightning strike. The couple was not home at the time it started. There was substantial damage to the third floor of the estate as well as smoke and water damage to other parts of the home. Kind neighbors reacted quickly and were able to break a window in the home and rescue the owners’ dogs.
Crews began cleaning up the damage on the uninsured property the following day and repairs are underway. The status of the sale, which was supposed to close this week, is unknown.
Kenny Chesney was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and raised in nearby Luttrell. He attended college at East Tennessee State in Johnson City. While there he had became a fixture in the area’s venues, including
Chuckie’s Trading Post and Quarterback’s Barbecue.
An awakening of sorts came when he went into the Classic Recording Studio in Bristol, Va. Backed by several musicians he knew from college (who are now the core of Alison Krauss‘ band), he recorded an album’s worth of songs he’d written. When he pressed up a thousand copies, sold them all at his shows and made enough to buy a new Martin guitar, he realized he was on to something. A month after graduating from college in early 1991 with a degree in advertising, he headed down I-40 west to Nashville. That proved to be
the right direction.
Chesney is currently dating Amy Colley, who was crowned Miss Tennessee in 2005 and is from the East Tennessee area. She works as a critical care nurse at a burn unit in Nashville. Sources reported that Chesney and Colley were in the area over the Thanksgiving holiday visiting her parents and reportedly looking at property. The Crantzdorf Estate was said to be one of those properties. It was not long after that the rumor began that the home had been sold to a country music mega star and that the Grindstaff’s signed a confidentiality agreement stating that they would not disclose the buyers of the property.
As we said previously, the information we obtained is based on reports we were given. Until there is evidence to indicate otherwise, it is classified as unsubstantiated rumors. Guess will have to just wait and see if in fact East Tennessee’s favorite country music singer is making a comeback to the place where his fame and fortune began.
