Buccaneers co-chairman Joel Glazer released the following statement:

“We will be forever grateful to Jon for bringing us the Super Bowl title, and we thank Bruce for his contributions to our franchise. However after careful consideration, we feel that this decision is in the best interest of our organization moving forward.”

The Bucs were 9-3 at the start of December and looked like one of the best teams in the league, but they collapsed down the stretch, finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs, and Gruden and Allen have now paid for it with their jobs.

Jon Gruden is an American former college football player and professional coach. He was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003 in his first year with the Buccaneers.

Former Super Bowl-winning coach Jon Gruden, ESPN’s Monday Night Football analyst, said he’s “preparing to come back” to coaching, and that his work in the media coincides with his future aspirations to be on the sidelines.

“I am — every year — preparing myself to coach,” Gruden told PewterReport.com. “Sometimes I show up at (a training) camp, and I show up in the offseason, and people let me coach. I jump in drills and they still let me install plays and call plays at some places. I still have a lot of fun.
