Travis The Chimp Attacks (VIDEO)
A 200 pound Chimpanzee named Travis who once appeared in TV adverts has attacked a woman and a police officer while she was visiting Travis’s owner Sandra Herold in Stamford, Connecticut.
Travis’s attack left 55-year-old Charla Nash, suffering from a “tremendous loss of blood” and in a “very serious” condition. She remains at Stamford Hospital and Dr. Kevin Miller has reported that she is improving. She has extensive facial and hand injuries.
Nash was attended by hand specialists, plastic surgeons and specialists in orthopedics, ophthalmology and trauma.
Miller says it’s good that Nash has made some progress, but she has a long way to go.
Herold stabbed the chimp with a knife to halt his attack on her friend.
Police officers who arrived at the scene were cornered in their car by the animal, who was still acting aggressively. He then climbed in their vehicle, prompting the police to shoot him.
Stamford’s police captain Richard Conklin said : “Travis has been raised almost like a child by this family.
“He rides in a car every day, he opens doors, he’s a very unique animal in that aspect. We have no indication of what provoked this behavior at all.”
Miller says it’s good that Nash has made some progress, but she has a long way to go.
