Former White House First Cat Socks Dies
Socks, the former first cat who belonged to the Clinton’s has died at the age of 20. Socks had been battling throat cancer since November. He was a stray when he was rescued by Chelsea Clinton. He lived in the Governor’s Mansion and then in the White House.
In a statement released by People.com the Clinton’s said “Socks brought much happiness to Chelsa and us over the years, and enjoyment to kids and cat lovers everywhere. We’re grateful for those memories and we especially want to thank our good friend Betty Currie, for taking such loving care of Socks for so many years.”
Betty Currie, was former President Bill Clinton’s personal secretary. She and her husband took over caring for Socks following the end of the Clinton administration. A friend of the family told sources that Socks had to be put to sleep on Friday because he was no longer able to stand and that he wasn’t eating. Rest In Peace….Socks!
