Captain Richard Phillips Freed Three Somali Pirates Dead
AP NEWS: Richard Phillips, the Captain of the cargo vessel the ‘Meersk Alabama‘ who was being held hostage by four Somali pirates is now free.
The release occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. EDT in what sources are describing as a swift firefight which killed three of the four pirates dead.
Phillips was transported to a nearby Navy warship and is said to be unharmed.
The 19 crew members who were able to retake control of the vessel arrived at it’s destination yesterday. Sources reported that when the news of Captain Phillips release came they were thrilled. They placed an American flag
over the rail of the top of the Maersk Alabama and whistled pumping their fists in the air and fired a bright red flare into the sky from the ship. Read more of this story
