Brett Favre’s first extended playing time as a member of the Vikings proved costly for the quarterback. Literally.

The NFL fined Favre $10,000 on Friday for the crackback block he threw in the third quarter of the Vikings’ preseason victory in Houston.

“On a run play, as his opponent was moving toward the ball carrier, Favre struck him below the waist area,” the NFL said in a statement announcing the fine.  Read full story here

Farves Rib Broken? Farves Crackback Block to Eugene Wilson’s Knees

Vikings quarterback Brett Favre said before last night’s game at Houston that he might have a cracked rib, but he hasn’t received an official diagnosis. He told ESPN that taking a deep breath caused him some discomfort. He also doesn’t plan to wear any kind of special padding, saying “the damage is done.’’

His ribs appeared fine during the game in which he was 13 of 18 for 142 yards and one touchdown in the Vikings’ 17-10 victory over the Texans.  Read full story here
