Toni Collette Is Surprise Winner at the Emmys
LOS ANGELES — A funny thing happened on the way to the Emmys. The expected coronation of “30 Rock” as the winner of every comedy category did not quite come to pass.

Toni Collette, who portrays a woman with multiple personalities on Showtime’s “United States of Tara,” won the Emmy for best actress in a comedy at the 61st annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday. Kristin Chenoweth, who played Olive Snook in ABC’s “Pushing Daisies,” which was canceled after its second season, won best supporting actress in a comedy. Jon Cryer, who plays the Felix Unger to Charlie Sheen’s Oscar Madison on CBS’s “Two and a Half Men,” won best supporting actor in a comedy.

Jeffrey Blitz won for best director for a comedy for “The Office” on NBC, for the episode titled “Stress Relief,” in which a cat was thrown into a hole in the ceiling and came crashing back down through the ceiling tiles. Read full story here
