MSNBC.com News Report:  Akbar Risuddin — or “the Great” in Arabic — is a bouncing baby boy who could break a knee.  Ani, his mother from Jakarta, Indonesia, delivered the 19.2-pound, 2-foot-long child on Monday via Caesarean section.

His arrival, chronicled on TODAY Thursday, was marked by a cry that sounded more like a roar and an appetite of epic proportions.

Sept. 25:  A diabetic woman from the North Sumatra province gave birth to a 19-pound baby boy, who is believed to have broken the size record for the Southeast Asian country.

Akbar’s weight record for a newborn in Indonesia, although a bit short of the world record of 23 pounds set in 1879, was likely caused by his mother having gestational diabetes. A Russian woman has given birth to the largest baby born since 1955. The largest baby ever to survive was born in Italy and weighed in at a whopping 22.4 lbs. “Little” Nadya Khalina weighed in at 15.5 lbs. She is one of 11 children born to the couple.

Born by cesarean section, the nurses and obstetrician were all shocked at the size of Nadya when she emerged from the womb.
