Tiger Woods’ doctor, Dr. Anthony Galea, who has treated Tiger Woods was caught at the US-Canadian Border with the human growth hormone, Actovegin. The drug, which can be used as a performance-enhancer, is illegal in the United. States.

He is an academic staff of the University of Toronto and has lectured internationally on numerous topics. Dr. Galea has been a sports medicine doctor at the Olympic Games, is the Head Physician for the Toronto Agonauts Football Club and is the sports medicine consultant for many professional athletes in the NFL. The doctor, who is of Canadian descent, has treated professional athletes including, Alexander Rodriguez of the Yankees, figure skater Patrick Chan, sprinter Donovan Bailey and a number of NFL players. He is allegedly under investigation by the FBI, in addition to being under investigation in Canada where he was arrested on Oct. 15.

Using, selling or importing Actovegin is illegal in the United States.

Additionally, Galea is being looked into by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for smuggling, criminal conspiracy and selling unapproved drugs. Galea is expected in court in Toronto on Friday.   Read full story here

ESPN Reported:  Galea visited Woods’ home in Florida at least four times in February and March, the newspaper reported, to provide that platelet therapy after Woods’ agents were concerned by his slow recovery from June 2008 knee surgery.

The PGA Tour also released a statement Tuesday, saying, “We have read nothing with respect to the published reports regarding Tiger Woods and Dr. Galea that would suggest a violation of our anti doping policy.”  Read more here
