Kleine Levin Syndrome
The cause of Kleine-Levin Syndrome is not known.
When awake, the patient’s whole demeanor is changed, often appearing “spacey” or childlike. When awake he experiences confusion, disorientation, complete lack of energy (lethargy), and lack of emotions (apathy).
Affected individuals may go for a period of weeks, months or even years without experiencing any symptoms, and then they reappear with little warning.

Most patients report that everything seems out of focus, and that they are hypersensitive to noise and light. In some cases, food cravings (compulsive hyperphagia) are exhibited. Instances of uninhibited hypersexuality during an episode have also been reported. Read more here

Lottie Ball recalled her daughter’s first episode. “We couldn’t wake her up,” she told NBC News for a report that aired Friday on TODAY. “It was just really constant ‘Louisa, will you get up, please. Have something to eat.’ She couldn’t have the energy to just open her eyelids.”Now, Louisa’s friends can tell when a bout is coming on. She stops talking and she may be irritable. That’s when she knows she has to get home to her bed.
