NJ earthquake: Somerset County rattled by 2.6-magnitude quake

But no injuries were reported, and authorities say the quake apparently didn’t cause any damage.

The 2.6 magnitude quake’s epicenter was reported in Gladstone around 9 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Officials say the area, which sits on the Ramapo Fault Line, had experienced a 1.5 magnitude earthquake last month.  Read full story here

Missionaries, freed by Haitian judge after kidnapping charges, land in US

MIAMI (ARCHIVE)- Eight American missionaries freed by a Haitian judge landed in Miami early Thursday, nearly three weeks after the group was charged with kidnapping for trying to take 33 children out of the quake-stricken country.  Read full story here

Illinois Earthquake

Highlights: 3.8-magnitude earthquake hits 50 miles northwest of Chicago, USGS says.

A small pre-dawn earthquake has hit northern Illinois, startling sleepy-eyed residents as far away as Iowa and Indiana, but no damage or injuries were immediately reported.

Residents reported being tossed out of bed and finding books and tools scattered across the floor

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 3.8-magnitude earthquake hit about 50 miles northwest of Chicago at 4 a.m. Wednesday. The USGS initially reported the magnitude as 4.3 but later downgraded it.

Middletown Explosion

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Early reports were that a natural gas leak could have caused a devastating explosion Sunday morning that killed two and injured as many as 100 at a power plant being built south of the city on the Connecticut River.  Read full story here

Haiti Aftershock (VIDEO)

The largest influx of Haitian orphans so far to come through Miami International Airport arrived early Friday morning, carried in a security guard’s brawny forearms, swaddled in blankets, dreaming of seeing a fluffy thing called snow. They were dubbed the “Haiti 80.”

Guatemala Earthquake

January 18th, 2010

Another in a series of earthquakes in the aftermath of the Haiti magnitude 7 event occurred off Guatmala yesterday.
