Mark Becker

ARCHIVE:  Mark Becker, 24, has been identified as the person responsible for Parkersburg shooting, and killing Iowa High School football coach 58-year-old Ed Thomas.

Mark Becker was a former student of Ed Thomas. The victim of the shooting, Ed Thomas was an athletic director of Aplington-Parkersburg High School.

Reports say, Ed Thomas was shot several times by Mark Becker when he was in the school’s weight room. There were about 30 high school football players in the weight room at the time when shooting occurred. None of the players have been injured.

Ed Thomas died after he was sent to the Waterloo hospital. Mark Becker has been charged with first-degree murder of Ed Thomas, and has been kept in the Butler County jail.

The prosecution’s psychiatric experts will be allowed to evaluate Mark Becker, accused of shooting and killing Aplington/Parkersburg football coach, at his murder trial next month.Dr. Michael Taylor, a Des Moines psychiatrist and Dr. Michael Spodak will evaluate Becker at a time to be determined, according to an order filed today in Butler County District Court. The evaluations will be separate and a copy of any written report will be provided to Becker and his attorney, Second Judicial District Judge Stephen Carroll ruled.  Read more here
