Former New York Giants star Plaxico Burress was been released from the Onedia Correctional Facility today. Burress, 34, served a two year sentence for a two counts of weapons possession, one count of reckless endangerment and a lesser charge of criminal possession of a weapon.
The star receiver was in a Manhattan night club with Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce in November 2009 when the gun he was carrying in his pocket went off. Burress was shot in the foot. He had a license to carry a concealed weapon however, it expired in 2008.
Burress plans to return to the NFL. In an interview he told sources…”I just want to thank God for bringing me through one of the most trying times in my life, “It’s a beautiful day. It’s a beautiful day to be reunited with my family. I want to go home and spend some quality time with them.”
In a statement his agent Drew Rosenhaus told reporters “He’s learned an awful lot,”He knows that he obviously made a mistake. To miss two NFL seasons in the prime of your career. To not be with your family, most importantly. To lose out on millions and millions of dollars. These are things that have forced him to certainly evaluate his life.”
He is said to be one of NFL’s top free agents. He is expected to fly to Fort Lauderdale today to begin spring training.
