With week 2 now in the books, some very interesting things are starting to develop in the world of college football.
Plan 1. You better have a capable backup QB. Arkansas was stunned yesterday as Tyler Wilson went down with an injury and the Hogs fell to perennial power UL Monroe – OUCH. On the other hand, Connor Shaw of South Carolina doesn’t play yesterday versus East Carolina and Dylan Thompson comes in and throws for over 300 yards in a route over East Carolina. The ‘Ole Ball Coach looked like….The ‘Ole Ball Coach!!
Plan 2. Don’t believe everything you read in your press clippings. Wasn’t it just a few short weeks ago when Michigan was touted as a potential National Champion and the mighty SEC was going down? The SEC rolled over the Big Ten and yesterday the Wolverines struggled again with the Air Force. Oh, by the way, the SEC holds down 2 of the 3 top spots in my Top 25 poll this week! Maybe Mr. Robinson should focus on football rather than wanting to challenge Usain Bolt in a 40 yard dash! Get ready Wolves, the Irish are just around the corner!
Plan 3. Don’t schedule the Little Sisters of the Poor to get ready for league play. Nice job by Oklahoma State beating up on Paycheck Savannah State last week 84-0! What happened yesterday? A SPANKING by Arizona! Guess you must have been over confident with last weeks win! Add Arkansas to this list. Add North Carolina to this list. After beating up on Elon Elementary 62-0 last week, Tar Heel Nation was poking their chests out. Enter a mediocre Wake team and say good-bye to UNC – thank you for playing! Nothing good comes from powerhouses or big time schools playing these weaker teams. If you lose, it is an embarrassment to the university. If you win, it’s expected and you better win by 56 points or questions are raised.
It’s a sad day for the state of Pennsylvania. When the best team in your state is Youngstown State, your big time programs are in serious trouble. No offense to the fine Youngstown team, but Penn State and Pittsburgh are the 2 premier ”state” teams that are more recognizable and it is going to be a long, long year for those wonderful fans.
Speaking of problems, the Big Ten looks very average so far this year. Wisconsin has a dreadful offense, Michigan is struggling, Michigan State is 2-0 but not impressive, Ohio State is 2-0 with no where to go, and you can’t get a good read on the Cornhuskers yet. Wait a minute…Indiana is now 2-0!! Stop the press!!
If you read my article the other day, I said one of the best games of the weekend would be Montana @ Appalachian State. These 2 powerhouses have been foes for a long time and yesterday App. State scored 14 points in the 4th quarter to pull out a 35-27 victory. Congrats to all the fine people associated with these 2 great universities!

Thankfully, he is listed in stable condition now. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Devon, his family, and the entire Tulane football family.
