College Football 2012 – Week 6 Recap – SHAKEUP SATURDAY

Just when you think the 2012 college football season couldn’t get any better – BAM – witness week 6! Drama, wild finishes, upsets, domination, explosive offenses, swiss cheese defenses, and more of the same were the flavor of yesterday’s great games.

Week-six

We knew going into Saturday’s games that this had a chance to be a memorable day with all of the Top 25 match-ups and what a ride it was!  Drama – NC State at the horn upsets FSU. The track meet game between West Virginia and Texas. Wild finishes – NC State at the horn upsets FSU. Wild finishes – the track meet game between West Virginia and Texas. Upsets – NC State at the horn upsets FSU. North Carolina over Virginia Tech??????  NOOOOOO!!! What is going on in Hokie Land? Florida over LSU was a bit of an upset but LSU has struggled offensively this year and it showed again yesterday. Domination – ND over ”The U”. Domination – South Carolina over the ‘DAWGS. Domination –  K State over Kansas. Explosive offenses – see West Virginia, Oregon, Texas, Ohio State. Swiss cheese defenses – see West Virginia, Texas, Nebraska, Clemson. More of the same – Oregon plays another patsy. BYU scores in the bottom of the 9th to win.

It has become rather apparent that big time programs who have played Division 3 schools, directional schools ( NE SW A&T ), the Little Sisters of the Poor, and schools that are just in the game for the paycheck to open the season, are now struggling as they get into conference play. Georgia, who has one of the worst schedules in all of football, should have lost last week to Tennessee, got rolled yesterday at South Carolina. It was electric at Williams Brice Stadium last night and the Gamecocks dominated every phase of the game. Florida State is another team that had a pathetic opening schedule to their season, goes on the road to NC State last night and played NOT to lose in the second half. The Wolfpack came out in the second half and methodically wore the Seminoles down hitting a TD pass to win the game with just seconds left. LSU, although they have to go through the SEC wars, opened the season with some cream puffs and just can’t get the offense on track. We thought they finally had a QB that could throw the ball down field more than 10 yards but it just hasn’t happened…… yet. LSU is in a stretch were they play on consecutive weeks, Florida, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Mississippi State – OUCH! Oregon has yet to play a competitive game and won’t for several more weeks. They finish the year with USC, Stanford, and Oregon State. How will they react once they are tested? By then, they will have out-scored their opponents 600 - 24!

On the other hand, let’s take a look at this week’s Top 5. Alabama fears no one and takes on all comers. Oregon – ’nuff said. South Carolina just waxed Georgia and now gets LSU, Florida, and Tennessee. They opened the season on the road in conference play! Notre Dame only plays Michigan State, Michigan, Miami, Stanford, BYU, Oklahoma, and USC. Talk about being battled tested! For all of you ND haters out there….would you rather see an undefeated ND in the BCS Championship game, or, a never tested Oregon team play for the trophy??? And then there is West Virginia. They are currently in a point of their year where they play Baylor, Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas State, TCU, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma. Is it any wonder the SEC has won 6 consecutive national championships in a row?
