♦Hurricane Sandy Path Nears the East Coast…Highlights

♦Up to 400,000 New Yorkers could be evacuated as city declares state of emergency, which means state will have access to federal funding.
♦Subways facing possible shutdown – the second time in history.
♦Sandy could be ‘worst case‘ superstorm, more powerful than Irene.
♦Could cause up to $1billion worth of damage.

A state of emergency was declared today along the  Eastern Seaboard  of  New York and New Jersey as officials warn that  Hurricane Sandy, dubbed “Frankenstorm”  barrels toward the coast, showing no mercy and  putting an estimated 66 million Americans in harms way.

Residence  along the storms path are reportedly  rushing to buy supplies and food as well as , filling their gas tanks, and securing their homes as the ‘killer’ storms path makes it’s way up the Coast.

According to experts…Meteorologist fear that the atmospheric conditions surrounding Sandy (which is currently a category 1 storm) and the nor’easter winds blowing in from the Atlantic could clash and in turn create the ‘perfect storm, ‘  causing excessively high winds, significant rainfall, massive floods, significant snow accumulation of up to two feet, and more than $1billion dollars in damages.

“We’re looking at impact of greater than 50 to 60 million people,” said Louis Uccellini, head of environmental prediction for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

THE HIGH DEGREE OF BLOCKING FROM EASTERN NORTH AMERICA ACROSS THE ENTIRE ATLANTIC BASIN IS EXPECTED TO ALLOW THIS UNUSUAL MERGER TO TAKE PLACE, AND ONCE THE COMBINED GYRE MATERIALIZES, IT SHOULD SETTLE BACK TOWARD THE INTERIOR NORTHEAST THROUGH HALLOWEEN, INVITING PERHAPS A GHOULISH NICKNAME FOR THE CYCLONE ALONG THE LINES OF “FRANKENSTORM”, AN ALLUSION TO MARY SHELLEY’S GOTHIC CREATURE OF SYNTHESIZED ELEMENTS.

On Wednesday…Sandy roared across Cuba overnight, making landfall as a powerful 115-mph storm.

The storm which hit the Bahamas last week is expected to ravage the Northeast from Sunday through Wednesday.

As many as 58 people reported dead across Caribbean as super storm barrels north.
