Tennessee Hires Butch Jones as New Head Football Coach

Check This Out Lyle Allen “Butch” Jones, Jr. the  head football coach of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football team and former head coach at Central Michigan University from 2007 to 2009…has accepted the position of head coach for the University of Tennessee.

In a press conference held today…Jones said he will be working to restore the Tennessee football program to its championship glory during a news conference Friday introducing him as the Volunteers‘ new coach.

“We’ll be working to be champions each and every day,” Jones said. “We will be a champion in everything we do. That’s not only on the field but off the field.”

Jones agreed to a six-year contract worth $18.2 million.

Derek Dooley Fired

Sunday, November 18th…Following the University of Tennessee’s 41-18 loss to Vanderbilt the announcement, as expected was made… Derek Dooley has been fired as the head football coach and will not be on the sidelines when the Volunteers take on the Kentucky Wildcats next Saturday November 24th.

S.C.’s Marcus Lattimore Suffers Knee Injury

University of South Carolina All-American Marcus Lattimore suffered an ugly blow to his right knee in today’s game against Tennessee. The  injury occurred when the Gamecocks up 21-14 with 4:45 remaining in the second quarter.  The star running back’s knee took a direct hit with the helmet of  Vols defender Eric Gordon.

Peyton Manning tries to recruit But Jones to come to Colorado…

Butch Jones was pondering whether to leave Cincinnati this week to coach Colorado when he received a text message that inadvertently foreshadowed his eventual destination.

It was from Denver Broncos quarterback and Tennessee great Peyton Manning.

“He was selling me on Colorado,” Jones said. “He said it was hard for a person from the University of Tennessee to be selling somebody to come to the University of Colorado. I wanted to text him back, `Come on, I want to go to Tennessee.’ “
