Erik Ainge Former Vols Quarterback Arrested

Former New York Jets quarterback Erik Ainge was  arrested for driving under the influence.

Ainge  was stopped by authorities in Knoxville, TN at 1:13 a.m.  on Sunday.

A spokesman for the police department said in a statement that the 27-year-old Ainge failed field sobriety tests,

Ainge was booked into the Knox County Detention Facility and released later Sunday on a $500 appearance bond. He is set for a court appearance in Knox County General Sessions Court on Monday morning  where he faces Driving under the influence, violating the implied consent law and a roadway lane violation.

Ainge was selected by the New York Jets in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL draft. His appearances in three seasons were limited to exhibition games before he retired due to injuries.

He started 37 games between 2004 and 2007 at Tennessee and was a fifth-round draft selection by the Jets in 2008. He retired after three seasons because of injuries to his throwing shoulder. He has spoken openly of his struggles with alcohol and drugs.
