Riley Cooper Screwed up Big Time

Riley Cooper has a huge black cloud hovering over his head and based on what sources are saying…it could linger for days to come.

Cooper, an NFL wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles played college football and college baseball for the University of Florida.  He was picked up by the Eagles in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

The controversy began in July 2013 when a video surfaced of him being denied backstage access at a Kenny Chesney concert.  In the video Cooper used the word “n-word” to refer to the backstage bouncers.

Cooper has since  made a public apology and was fined an undisclosed amount by the Philadelphia Eagles.

The reaction from his teammates, the Eagles franchise  and media personalities is best described as “hurtful.”  Cooper has been ordered to seek counseling and is currently been excused from team activities.

A rep for the Eagles was blunt and to the point: “Riley Cooper will be seeking counseling and we have excused him from all team activities.”

The rep says Riley needs to understand how his racist threats — to fight every n***er at the Kenny Chesney concert — are hurtful.

The team is hedging over whether Cooper will be welcome back.

Cooper was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fifth round (159th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He was signed to a four-year contract on July 13, 2010.

Cooper caught his first NFL touchdown in a game against the Tennessee Titans on October 24, 2010.

He ended his first season with 7 receptions for 116 yards and 1 TD.

He scored his second touchdown of his career vs. New York Giants in week 10 of the 2011 NFL season on a 8-yard completion from Vince Young.

He broke his collarbone on July 28, 2012 and missed time,  but did return mid-season and made a one-handed catch for a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys. He scored again in the second meeting in the season versus the Cowboys, and it was again a one-handed catch.

Team reacts with mixed emotions:

Quarterback Michael Vick expressed forgiveness of Cooper on Wednesday.

Cornerback Cary Williams said Thursday that slur “puts a damper to my spirits to what type of person (Cooper) is. I’m more cautious now to approach him.”

Tailback LeSean McCoy accepted Cooper’s apology, but hedged: “Ican’t really respect somebody like that.”

Lindsey Cooper, Riley Cooper 's sister

Lindsey Cooper is known to many as the younger sister of Florida Gators receiver Riley Cooper. But in track circles she has created her own identity.

That identity has come with success.

A junior sprinter at Clearwater Central Catholic, Cooper placed sixth at last season’s Class 2A state meet in the 400-meter dash, and she believes she is only starting to reach her potential.
