The 24-year-old got the news by telephone from  St Louis Rams’ head coach Jeff Fisher, who told Sam: “You are a Ram. The wait is finally over.”

Jeffrey Michael Fisher is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of the St. Louis Rams and was previously the head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

ESPN was there when Michael Sam got his much awaited phone call, the shining moment was caught on film.  Sam broke down in tears in the arms of his boyfriend. “Thank you,” he could be heard saying to Fisher.

Michael Sam took to Twitter to post a picture of himself, smiling. “Thank you to the St. Louis Rams and the whole city of St. Louis,” he said in the post. “I’m using every (ounce) of this to achieve greatness!!”
