Sorry Bieber Hinterland Lawsuit

Sorry, but “oh no I didn’t steal your song.”

Justin Bieber’s camp is firing back with what they say is  sufficient evidence which will throw out indie pop star White Hinterland‘s lawsuit in which she claims that Justin Bieber stole her vocal loop for “Sorry.”

According to TMZ.com, they obtained a 25 second snippet that lays out how Blood, one of JB’s co-producers on the song, manipulated a different female voice for the now famous loop that opens “Sorry.”

In the breakdown you hear the unidentified woman sing that “oohooh oohooh” at a regular tempo. It’s then taken up a few octaves and repeated for the end result that went into the song. The important thing is … Justin’s camp denies using White Hinterland’s voice at all.

More about White Hinterland:

Casey Dienel (born March 10, 1985) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. She released her debut album, Wind-Up Canary, in 2006 on Hush Records. Dienel presently performs and records as White Hinterland, whose first album, titled Phylactery Factory, was released on March 4, 2008, by the independent record label Dead Oceans. She plays piano, keyboards and ukulele.

On January 4, 2008, after a few months hinting at “change,” Dienel announced in her blog that “for the present and foreseeable future, there won’t be any more Casey Dienel.” Her blog post coincided with Dead Oceans’ announcement of the forthcoming release of White Hinterland’s album Phylactery Factory:

2008 is here, and with the new year comes the influx of new albums. Dead Oceans is thrilled to partake in this ritual, and we are enthused to officially welcome White Hinterland to our label family. Led by the talented Casey Dienel, White Hinterland have crafted the mysterious Phylactery Factory, which will arrive in record stores worldwide on March 4, 2008.

In 2010, White Hinterland (consisting of the duo Dienel and artist/musician/collaborator Shawn Creeden) toured the US and Europe with their album Kairos. A song from this album, “Icarus”, was selected by Revlon to be used in their 2010 commercial for Just Bitten Lip Stain, starring Jessica Biel and directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Later the same year, “Icarus” was featured in an episode of the ABC Family drama “Pretty Little Liars,” as well the fashion show of the winner of the Project Runway (Season 8) finale, Gretchen Jones. The song was also used in the 2010 film It’s Kind of a Funny Story.

“Sorry” Lyrics by Justin Bieber

You gotta go and get angry at all of my honesty
You know I try but I don’t do too well with apologies
I hope I don’t run out of time, could someone call a referee?
Cause I just need one more shot at forgiveness
I know you know that I made those mistakes maybe once or twice
By once or twice I mean maybe a couple a hundred times
So let me, oh let me redeem, oh redeem, oh myself tonight
Cause I just need one more shot at second chances

[Pre-Chorus]
Yeah, is it too late now to say sorry?
Cause I’m missing more than just your body
Is it too late now to say sorry?
Yeah I know that I let you down
Is it too late to say I’m sorry now?

[Chorus]
I’m sorry, yeah
Sorry, yeah
Sorry
Yeah I know that I let you down
Is it too late to say I’m sorry now?

[Verse 2]
I’ll take every single piece of the blame if you want me to
But you know that there is no innocent one in this game for two
I’ll go, I’ll go and then you go, you go out and spill the truth
Can we both say the words and forget this?

[Pre-Chorus]
Is it too late now to say sorry?
Cause I’m missing more than just your body
Is it too late now to say sorry?
Yeah I know that I let you down
Is it too late to say I’m sorry now?

[Bridge]
I’m not just trying to get you back on me
Cause I’m missing more than just your body
Is it too late now to say sorry?
Yeah I know that I let you down
Is it too late to say I’m sorry now?

[Chorus]
I’m sorry, yeah
Sorry, oh
Sorry
Yeah I know that I let you down
Is it too late to say I’m sorry now?
I’m sorry, yeah
Sorry, oh
Sorry
Yeah I know that I let you down
Is it too late to say I’m sorry now?
