Linkin Park has officially canceled its North American tour.

The cancellation comes just a day after frontman Chester Bennington committed suicide at his Palos Verdes Estates home.

According to TMZ.com, they were told by the band’s rep immediately following the news, that the group was so devastated they couldn’t think about the tour’s future, which was set to kick off next week.

The band started off with the name Xero, then Hybrid Theory, and finally Linkin Park.
They chose “Linkin Park” because Chester used to drive by Lincoln Park in Santa Monica, CA after practice and it grabbed his attention. The guys in the band liked how it sounded. They changed the spelling so that they could buy the domain, since lincolnpark.com was already taken and was too expensive to buy.

During Summer Sonic 2006 the band played a new song under the working title of QWERTY, of which they wrote the lyrics on the flight over. It is unknown whether this will be an album track or not, but a demo of the track was recorded in the studio and included on the sixth installment of the Linkin Park Underground EPs.

The episode of ER (1994) called “On the Beach” featured the song “One Step Closer”.
Former Band Members: Scott Koziol- Bass Guitar (1999-2001) Stand in Bass player in the Hybrid Theory album. Records on the song One Step Closer and appears in the video. Kyle Christener- Bass Guitar (1998-1999) Stand in bass player during Phoenix’s absence from the band during the Hybrid Theory EP. Mark Wakefield- Vocals (1996-1998) Original vocalist who left in 1998. He was later replaced by current member Chester Bennington. Wakefield now manages for Taproot.
“Session” was featured in the end title credits of the 2003 film The Matrix Reloaded (2003).
A part of “Points Of Authority” was featured in the film Little Nicky (2000).
“One Step Closer” was featured in the 2000 film Dracula 2000 (2000).
“Pushing Me Away” was featured in the film Valentine (2001).
“Numb/Encore” was featured in the beginning of the 2006 film Miami Vice (2006).
The group has their own record company called “Machine Shop Records”. “Machine Shop Records” is the main record label for Fort Minor’s first album, The Rising Tied.
