Former United States President, H.W. Bush, the oldest living president, passed away on November 30, 2018 at the the of 94.

Bush, who served as the 41st president from 1981- 1989, suffered from Vascular Parkinsonism, a form of Parkinson’s disease that robbed him of his ability to walk, forcing him to use a motorized scooter or wheelchair since at least 2012. In recent years made it increasingly difficult for him to speak more than a few words at a time. The cause of death was not immediately announced. However, during the last several years, the former president fell ill and was hospitalized.

Vascular Parkinsonism is a rare condition which is generally believed to be caused by small strokes that damage the same brain structures affected in Parkinson’s Disease.

President Donald Trump designated Wednesday as a national day of mourning, and a representative for the New York Stock Exchange said markets would close on that day, in keeping with the Big Board’s longstanding tradition.

He will lie in state in the United States Capitol rotunda.

Trump has also ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff for 30 days to honor Bush.

Bush’s death came seven months after that of his wife, Barbara, who died April 17 at age 92. Their 73-year marriage was longer than that of any presidential couple in U.S. history.
