Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel saw his CFL career come to an end on Wednesday after the Montreal Alouettes announced the quarterback’s release and contract termination.

According to several sports media outlets, league officials are reporting that the 26-year-old violated the terms of his CFL contract.

The Canadian Football League issued a statement saying Manziel had “contravened the agreement which made him eligible to play in the league.”

Alouettes general manager Kavis Reed also issued a statement saying, “We are disappointed by this turn of events. Johnny Manziel was provided a great deal of support by our organization, in collaboration with the CFL, but he has been unable to abide by the terms of his agreement.”  Read more here
