The star running back says he wasn’t given a reason why the Chargers released him on Monday after nine mostly brilliant seasons in which he became one of the greatest running backs in NFL history.
Speaking at a news conference in the ballroom at a suburban golf course, Tomlinson choked up after thanking his wife, LaTorsha, who was sitting to his right.

It was an emotional scene after the Super Bowl: Kendra Wilkinson in tears as she rushed out of the stadium holding her baby son.
But the reality star says she wasn’t upset over the Indianapolis Colts’ loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday in a game in which her husband Hank Baskett mishandled an on-side kick, leading to a Saints scoring drive.
“I wasn’t cryin cuz of the damn game it’s cuz the paparazzi have no soul… they wouldn’t leave me n family alone!!!!” she wrote on her Twitter page Monday.
Even the long-awaited Super Bowl ad from conservative group Focus on the Family came with a punchline Sunday night.
The 30-second “Celebrate family, celebrate life” ad starring Heisman winner Tim Tebow ended with a surprise – Tim Tebow tackling his mother after she says she nearly lost him during her pregnancy. The pair jokes that they have to be “tough” with all the family has been through.
The commercial sparked debate before it was even broadcast, and some groups called for CBS not to air it.
The ad is the first such advocacy ad to appear in television’s most-watched broadcast, which draws about 100 million viewers. It aired early in the first quarter.
The commercial, which shows just Tebow and his mother, Pam, against a white backdrop, does not contain an overt antiabortion message. Instead it sends people to Focus on the Family’s Web site, which tells more of the Tebows’ story and offers a more straightforward message.
The devout quarterback’s mother gave birth to him in the Philippines in 1987 after spurning a doctor’s advice to have an abortion for medical reasons. Read full story here

FORT LAUDERDALE – Peyton Manning’s “black box” is a brown leather satchel, filled with his playbook, the Colts‘ game plan, personal notes and DVDs. It’s thick (roughly the size of two Manhattan phonebooks) and secure, with a small, bronze key lock fastened to the main zipper.
Manning takes it everywhere, from his hotel room to the meeting rooms to practice. He brought it to his Super Bowl news conferences, keeping the satchel at his feet during his Q&A sessions.
A Colts public relations man was always there, guarding the most important carry-on in South Florida.
“Is that part of the aura? Is that part of the mystique,” Colts quarterback coach Frank Reich asks half-jokingly. Read full story here
