On the day the Yankees finalized a one-year deal with a potential left fielder for the 2010 season, they reportedly reached agreement with a man who could give him even more competition.
The Bronx Bombers announced the addition of Randy Winn to a contract reportedly worth up to $2 million on Monday. And according to published reports, they also signed veteran outfielder Marcus Thames to a Minor League deal.
Thames, who turns 33 on March 6, will come in competing with Winn and Brett Gardner for playing time, according to SI.com, which first reported the signing. Thames will get $900,000 if he makes the 25-man roster. Read full story here

At yesterday’s Phillies v. Nationals game, one fan leaned over his upper deck seat and made a picture-perfect catch. After a couple of fist bumps with fellows fans, the guy gives the ball to his toddler who does what any smart kid does with a ball — she throws it back. Whoops. The best part? Dad hugs his baby instead of throwing her back.
Derek Jeter engaged rumors are breaking out however, they may be a little premature.
The rumors began when the New York Post alleged that Jeter got engaged to his girlfriend, actress Minka Kelly. However, no one has officially confirmed the engagement talk, much less Jeter and Kelly themselves. Naturally, the rumors have broken near September, as Jeter hopes to get the Yankees back to the postseason.
The New York Post posted the rumor on their Page Six gossip page, alleging that Derek Jeter got engaged to Minka Kelly in secret, and that they are planning a fall wedding. Of course, the New York Post got this rumor from an unnamed “insider.”
The story claims that Jeter and Kelly are telling friends and family to “save the date” for the fall. However – either because they didn’t want the secret out this soon, or because it isn’t true – reps for the couple denied the Derek Jeter engaged talk. Read more here
According to sources….The Material Girl, Madonna has not been the only one who has captured baseball’s Alex Rodriguez. His eyes have also been on Bridal Model Melissa Britos. A-Rodriguez met Britos at a party in November and a close friend of Britos claims that he became “obsessed” with her. New York Yankees pitcher JobaChamberlin’smother Jacqueline Standley has been arrested on suspicion of selling methamphetamines to an undercover police officer in Feb. 2009.
