Behind Blondie Parks favorite talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, is known for her love of houses. Therefore, it was no surprise when the news broke that she and wife Portia De Rossi had purchased “The Brody House.”
The 13,511 square foot modern architectural splendor was built in 1951 for a Los Angeles real estate investor and civic leader Sidney Brody and his wife Frances. The residence sits on 2.3 acres and is located on 360 South Mapleton Drive in L.A.’s Hombly Hills. This particular area along with Bel-Air, and Beverly Hills form the “Platinum Triangle” of Los Angeles’ priciest and most exclusive neighborhoods.
As we all know, the 55-year-old talk show host has an appreciate for beauty, design, details, great architecture and amenities. One “amenity” worth noting is that the 6 bedroom mansion is located beside Hugh Hefner’s infamous “Playboy” mansion. It has 9 1/2 bathrooms all of which are accented with exquisite black tile and granite countertops. The use of these materials extend into other areas throughout the house adding to the beauty of the unique structure and open floor plan design.
The gated mansion boasts of grandeur. It was constructed with the finest materials and throughout the years has been updated to maintains it’s value as well as the reputation of being what many say is “the best house in L.A.”
The residence offers many other built-in features such as cabinets, bookshelves, atmosphere lighting, tilted ceilings and glass walls all of which would make any avid architectural buff’s jaw drop the moment that they entered the residence.
The modern iconic estate is equally as appealing on the outside…The Olympic sized swimming pool, spa and tennis courts are set among beautifully landscape gardens edge with stone walls. The residence, described as an entertainer’s dream is designed for outdoor entertaining as well. There is an enclosed courtyard which is said to be a work of art within itself. The spacious area features a fireplace with accents of both brick and stone as well as a sheltering tree which offers privacy and shade from the California sun as well as a star gazers paradise at night.
Ellen is also known to add her own finishing touches on the real estate she has purchased in the past. Her fine taste and appreciation for great works of art will enhance the beauty of the recently renovated estate.
The ” architectural work of art” was designed in 1949 by Los Angeles-based architect and educator, A. Quincy Jones. Jones is known for innovative buildings in the modernist style and for urban planning that pioneered the use of greenbelts and green design.
According to sources the couple purchased their “dream home” for $39,888,000.
The mansion located in Holmby Hills , where the legendary “King of Pop” Michael Jackson lived and died has a buyer.
The 17,000 sq ft, seven-bedroom house, which is located on 100 North Carolwood Drive was designed by Richard Landry and built in 2002 on 1.26 acres. It has seven bedrooms, thirteen bathrooms, a theater, an elevator, a spa and gym, and a guesthouse.
The house has been on and off the market since 2008 (with a starting price of $38 million), and was renting to Jackson for $100,000 a month when he suddenly died in June 2009.
According to sources…the buyer is a very wealthy investment banker named Steven Mayer. Mayer reportedly purchased residence at a price ranging between $17 and $20 million.
The estate was originally listed at $24 million.

According to sources Ryan’s 6,877 square foot home has been sold to Adam Bernhard, who just sold his clothing company HauteLook Inc. to Nordstrom for $270 million.
Ryan bought the estate in 2000 and reportedly paid $8.6 million.
Her asking price was $11,400,000. Bernhard paid $11,125,000.
The six-bedroom, 7-bathroom historic Hollywood estate was built in 1931. It is situated on .75 acres and has panoramic views of overlooking Los Angeles and with views of the Pacific Ocean.
Along with all the estates amenities…he will be in the company of great neighbors which include Jennifer Aniston, Michael Bay, Berry Gordy and Darren Star.
