Several media sources have that “Terrell Owens‘ days as a Dallas Cowboy are history after he was released from the team on Wednesday.” However, the Cowboys had yet to confirm the move as of 2 a.m. Eastern Standard Time Thursday morning.
Owens drama both in and out of the locker room and on and off the field is believed to have played a role in his dismissal.
Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones had been non-committal on Owens‘ future until this point in the off season.
The Dallas Morning News, who also reported that Owens had been released, said that Owens signed a three-year contract extension during the summer of 2008 therefore the team will take a $9 million salary cap hit.
It remains uncertain as to where Owens will play next. His attitude and temperament could be detrimental to the moral of any team. ESPN Analyst and former Hall of Farmer Steve Young said “it would have to be a confident, mature team that could handle his temperamental personality.”
Former Dallas Cowboy receiver and now ESPN analyst Keyshawn Johnson said that Owens “probably has 3-4 years left in him.”
