Transgender Bathroom Ordinance Passed in Houston

A new ordinance which was passed  in Houston, Texas continues to raise eyebrows and leaving many with unanswered Mayor Annise D. Parker serves as the Executive Officer of the City. As the City's chief administrator and official representativequestions as well as concerns.

The controversial ordinance is reportedly designed to protect the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Houstonians.  It allows those individuals to use the public bathroom of the gender they identify.

Many hope that the City Council would delay the vote until a latter day in an attempt to educate those who had weighed in and expressed their confusion and concerns.

However, “HERO—the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance Law” was passed after a 11-6 vote by the Houston City Council on Thursday May 27th.

Following the vote, Houston Mayor Annise Parker sealed the deal with her signature. According to reports, “Mayor Parker Was in favor of the ordinance which allows men in women’s bathrooms or vise verse .

Annise,has been elected Houston Mayor three times, serving since January 2, 2010.

I mean, I’m just thinking of all the 14-year-old boys I went to school with, and how many of them would have awakened with that revelation.”

Huckabee is a weekly political commentary program filmed in front of a live studio audience in New York City. The  ordinance which was passed, was an amended version of the original ordinance.

The original ordinance stated:  It shall be unlawful for any place of public accommodation or any employee or agent thereof to deny any person entry to any restroom, shower room, or similar facility if that facility is consistent with and appropriate to that person’s expression of gender identity. It shall be a defense to prosecution for discrimination on the basis of gender identity under this article, however, if the defendant had a good faith belief that the gender or gender identity of the person discriminated against was not consistent with the gender designation of the facility.

 The amended ordinance omitted the underlined section in bold print
