Hurricane Ida Update

UPDATE

The Weather Channel Reports:  As of 6am CST Tropical Storm Ida was over Mobile Bay on its way to a second landfall in southeast Alabama. The first landfall occurred on Dauphin Island, Alabama at 5:40 am CST.

Top winds are down to 45 mph and further weakening is expected as Ida moves inland later this morning.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect from Grand Isle, Louisiana, east to the Aucilla River in Florida: this includes the city of New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain. They will likely be dropped later this morning.

Heavy rain from Ida has spread from eastern Mississippi through much of Alabama and Georgia. This area of heavy rain should slowly push eastward over the next 24 to 36 hours.  Read more of this story at The WeatherChannel.com

Hurricane Ida Projected Path Photos and Video

Hurricane Ida, is now a category 2 hurricane and is moving across the gulf of Mexico where a hurricane watch has been extended into Florida. Ida also hit Cancun on Sunday bringing with it strong winds and heavy rain.

Ida has reached speeds of up to 100mph in the state of Florida and is expected to reach the gulf coast of Mexico by today or tomorrow.

As Ida is nearing US Gulf Coast, some of the offshore oil and gas rigs were evacuated. Meanwhile, the price of oil has jumped to over $78 a barrel, as Bloomberg reports.
