13 Year Old Commits to USC (Video)
Friday, February 5th, 2010ESPN.com – Lane Kiffin really is getting a jump on recruiting.
No sooner had the Trojans new coach put the finishing touches on the Class of 2010 recruits, that he turned his attention to the Class of 2015.
That’s right, 2015.
Thursday evening Kiffin received a verbal commitment from 13-year old wunderkind quarterback David Sills of Bear, Del.
Too young?
Not according to his personal coach Steve Clarkson, who has mentored some of the game’s best quarterbacks including current USC starter Matt Barkley.
“His skill set is off the chart,” Clarkson said. “I’ve never seen anyone at his age do what he’s been able to do.”
Lane Kiffin; Karma says “what goes around comes around”
The commitment, which was first reported by ESPN’s Shelley Smith, has happened in college basketball previously, but is unprecedented for college football where it’s harder to project how a player as young as Sills will develop physically. Clarkson says that won’t be a problem.
“He’s already six feet as a 13-year old,” Clarkson said. “And he’s breaking down NFL footage.”
Clarkson said the scholarship offer emerged after he called Kiffin to discuss a quarterback recruit for next year’s class.
Clarkson said Kiffin asked him his opinion of the recruit and Clarkson said, “You might call me crazy, but you’ve known me a long time, right? And when I said if there was going to be a LeBron James of football it’d be Jimmy Clausen that turned out to be a pretty good prediction.
“And when I said Matt Barkley had the potential to be as good as Jimmy, he ended up winning Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior and starting at USC as a freshman, right?
“Well, I’ve got a kid now who is better than all of them and he’s in Delaware. You gotta take a look at him.”
Clarkson then directed Kiffin to a video of Sills that is making the rounds on YouTube.
“I’m as shocked as anybody,” Sills’ father said. “I was just talking with friends yesterday about what it’ll be like four years from now when David goes through the recruiting process. I never expected this to happen so soon.”
Kiffin watched it and called him back immediately.
“He was like, ‘This kid is incredible. How old is he again?’
“I was like, ‘That’s the problem, he’s 13.’ “ Read full story here

Lane Kiffin; Karma says “what goes around comes around”
Tuesday, January 19th, 2010Karma says what goes around comes around. Lane Kiffin, his last-second adios to Tennessee, and the bad vibes surrounding the move may already have landed back on the coach courtesy of reports leaking from the NCAA.

There is also a hushed up story of a car allegedly wrecked by Kiffin, under the influence, with some young ladies in the car. Now that may become public, as well.
Allegedly, Lane Kiffin had female co-eds in a rental car loaned to him through the UT program. Lane Kiffin crashed the car, while possibly intoxicated, and left the scene of the accident by scurrying off with a neighbor who came to his rescue—leaving the ladies to take the fall. The story goes on to say that someone dropped the loaner car off, which suffered extensive damage. Now the Knoxville car dealership (Lexus) wants their money, since Kiffin plans on jumping ship and neither he nor the school has paid up. Read full story here
Kiffin may have jumped into the USC bed without realizing it was a frying pan. Should USC be hit severely with across the board sanctions as expected by the NCAA, could Kiffin have hitched his star to an anchor?

Lane Kiffin is not stupid.
Lane Kiffin Rumors Surface
Sure, the new University of Tennessee coach comes across as cocky, overconfident and someone who talks a big game with no credentials to back it up, but so what? Did you see the Volunteers play last year? There hasn’t been much to hype up in Knoxville for the last few years.
USC Trojans – Official Site
So the 34-year-old Kiffin is creating some hot-air hoopla by blowing smoke. He has told everyone his team is going to beat Florida. He has called Urban Meyer a cheater.
At times it appeared he didn’t know the rules of recruiting. And he allegedly told a recruit that chose another school over the Vols he’ll be “pumping gas for a living.”
Lane Kiffin Tells Recruit He’ll End Up Pumping Gas
Now, is this the most conventional way to put your program on the map? No. Most coaches prefer to be humble and let their record speak for itself. But Kiffin has placed himself in a different boat. In his mind, he doesn’t have two or three years to wait for the Volunteers to post a Top 10 finish. So he’s forcing the issue.
NCAA Investigating Tennessee Football’s Use of Recruiting
But here’s the catch: It’s working.
All the major media outlets, who crave sensationalistic story lines to fuel the 24/7 news feed, need someone like Kiffin to create drama and generate debates. Even before coaching his first game at Tennessee, Kiffin has already gained the undivided attention of the national media.
Lil Wayne Name Drops Lane Kiffin in Latest Rap Song
For instance, at Tuesday’s annual SEC spring meetings, attended by all league coaches, Kiffin was the center of attention.
Forget that Florida had just won its second BCS championship in three years. Forget that a Houston Nutt-led Ole Miss team turned its program around with a 9-4 record (5-3 in the SEC) after four straight losing seasons and no conference wins in 2007. Forget that Vanderbilt won its first bowl game in over 2,000 years. And forget that Georgia failed to live up to its preseason No. 1 ranking and finished the regular season with a loss to Georgia Tech.
2008 Al Davis’ Letter to Lane Kiffin (Spread Propaganda Video)
All anyone attending the league meetings in Destin, Fla., wanted to know was what Kiffin would say next. With the media already wrapped around his finger, he chose to say nothing. And that was still a story.
Kiffin’s approach to running a college program is getting results far more important than grabbing the media’s ear. Recruits are buying into what Kiffin is selling. Kiffin landed a top 10 recruiting class in Year 1, headed by the top prospect in the nation, running back Bryce Brown.
Longtime NFL coordinator Monte Kiffin — Lane’s father — created a name for himself by building a defense in Tampa Bay that was the Buccaneers’ staple for over a decade. He takes over a Volunteers defense that finished 2008 tied for first in the SEC with Alabama in total defense.
Never mind Kiffin’s mouth, he’s on the fast track toward pointing the program in a winning direction with the pieces he already has in place.
But why is Kiffin pushing the envelope so hard? Why does he appear to be so impatient? The answer isn’t because he’s a young hot-head.
The answer is because he’s auditioning for another job. If and when Southern California coach Pete Carroll steps down from his post, Kiffin wants to be the first in line to replace him in my opinion.
There’s nothing about Kiffin that screams “Life-long Volunteer.” Besides a second chance to put himself on the map (he had no chance with the Raiders), there’s nothing in Knoxville for Kiffin.
He doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life in a town full of orange No. 16 jerseys, with half the fan base still bitter over the firing of Phillip Fulmer.
Kiffin wants the SoCal lifestyle.
He wants the major market.
He wants the beach and the palm trees. And he wants the Trojans.
USC has a new football coach: Lane Kiffin
So the sooner he can generate a buzz, the sooner he can get recruits and the sooner he can start winning, the sooner he can realize his ultimate goal. He’s already accomplished generating a
buzz and getting recruits.
Now all he has to do is win games in one of the nation’s toughest conferences. Read more at The Daily Citizen
Adam Krohn: Why are Vols fans surprised?
Why is everyone in Knoxville acting so stunned that Lane Kiffin bolted for the University of Southern California? It should have been obvious to anyone who followed college football that as soon as Pete Carroll left the Trojans, Kiffin — if given the opportunity — would leave Tennessee and return to the place where he helped put together one of the greatest runs in college football history. A copy of the following letter was displayed on an overhead projector as owner Al Davis outlined his reasons for firing coach Lane Kiffin. Dear Lane:
Over the past months, you have made a number of public statements that were highly critical of, and designed to embarrass and discredit this organization, its players and its coaches. I left you alone during training camp in hopes that you would cease your immature and destructive campaign.
However, you continue to make public statements that are critical of the organization, its players as a whole as well as individual players. Such statements constitute conduct detrimental to the Raiders and I will no longer stand silently by while you continue to heart this organization.
Further, you rontract is quite clear that you work “subject to the direction and supervision of the General Partner’’ and that the General Partner has the “exclusive right to do all things, which in its sole discretion are necessary to maintain and improve the Club, the football organization and their activities.’’
I realized when I hired you that you were young and inexperienced and that there would be a learning process for you. Your mistakes on player personnel and coaches were overlooked based on our patience with you. But I never dreamt that you would be so untruthful in statements to the press as well as on so many other issues. Your actions are those of a coach looking to make excuses for not winning, rather than a coach focused on winning.
For example, with the exception of Gibril Wilson, you were involved in recruiting all free agents and determining salaries for them and you were explicit in your desire to sign Javon Walker and DeAngelo Hall amongst others. All were a must to sign in your eyes, Hall in particular, because he played for Greg Knapp in Atlanta and Knapp gave him high grades. Do not run from that now.
I do realize that you did not want to draft JaMarcus Russell. He is a great player. Get over it and coach this team on the field, that is what you were hired to do. We can win with this team!
In regards to your recent fabrications about the defense, during the final cuts you made every cut on offense and every cut on defense except for Wakefield on defense and Wand on offense. Further more, during the game Monday night Rob played your Cover 2 defense and we got killed on an approximately 50-yard touchdown pass and approximately 70-yard gain that led to a field goal.
You meet every week with the defensive coaches to go over both the past game and to get a general feel for what will happen during the week in practice. You have the ability and authority to provide your input during those meetings and the preparation fo the game plan. I do not have weekly meetings with Rob _ you do.
During the week no one has ever gold you what to do on either offense or defense. In addition, no one has ever told you during a game what to do on either offense or defense and you call every play on offense. During a game if you want to blitz more, all you have to do is let Rob know what blitz you want and he will do it.
Although you continue to use the media to express your dissatisfaction with others, no one has publicly pointed out to you that in 4 preseason games and one regular season game played this year, your offense has scored one first half touchdown. That put tremendous pressure on the defense.
I know hta tyou wanted to bring your father in to run the defense and that Monte told me he wanted to come here even though he is under contract to Tampa. However, I did not wan to tamper with another team. In any event that was over seven months ago. Do not also run from the defense and your responsibilities.
Lane Kiffin Rumors Surface
This letter constitutes notice that if you further violate any term of your contract, in any manner whatsoever, you will be terminated for cause. I trust that this will not occur.

Lane Kiffin Rumors Surface
Sunday, January 17th, 2010First it was the hostess gate issue which has fueld more rumors and now some very interesting information is beginning to surface in the Lane Kiffin get the heck out of dodge situation.
A little context on Hostess-Gate
Hostesses traveled nearly 200 miles to attend a high school game in South Carolina in which at least three Tennessee recruits were playing…The hostesses are considered representatives of the university, which would mean they could not recruit players off campus. Therefore, the visits may be considered violations of N.C.A.A. recruiting rules.
The latest rumors involve a car accident in which Kiffin and some coeds were involved.
According to sources Kiffin let the scene before authorities arrived.
Jump Off the Lane Train (Lane Kiffin Song)
There have been other rumors which Kiffin was apparently taking a dip in a hot tub and once again yes….you guessed it….he wasn’t alone once again…the coeds were with him.

Perhaps if all this information is true it may shed a little light on Kiffin’s abrupt departure.
