Michael Vick’s $100 Million Deal With the Eagles

ESPN is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles and former Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick , 31, have agreed to a six-year $100 million contract extension with $40 million in guarantees.

This is more money than Peyton Manning was able to get a few weeks ago.  The Colts and Manning agreed to a  five-year deal for $90 million, or $18 million a year — equal to what New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is making.

Michael Vick to Pledge Support Against Dog Fighting

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is scheduled to announce his support Tuesday for new legislation to crack down on those who support dog fighting.

On July 17, 2007, Atlanta Falcons star quarterback Michael Vick was indicted by the federal government in connection with a dog fighting operation that was allegedly headquartered on property he owned in Surry County, Virginia.

Vick served 20 months in a federal prison for his involvement/bankrolling a dog fighting operation.

Vick and the head of Humane Society of the United States, Wayne Pacelle, will hold a news conference later today.  The bill, H.R. 2492, is meant to  penalize those involved/finance or bring children to dog and cock fights.  The bill will strengthen penalty’s.

In a statement Pacelle said…”Spectators are participants and accomplices who enable the crime of animal fighting, provide a large share of the funding for the criminal enterprise through their admission fees and gambling wagers, and help conceal handlers and organizers who try to blend into the crowd when a bust occurs.”

Michael Vick Wants a Dog

Updated – Interesting… according to sources it has been reported that NFL quarterback who served time for dogfighting  would love to own a dog again, and he’s allowed to after his three-year probation for dogfighting is over.

The Humane Society president doesn’t feel  that it is not good timing.  Wayne Pacelle said Thursday that it’s “too early” for Vick to have a dog, but it could be a “good thing” for Vick and his family after his probation ends.

In an interview, Vick said of owning a dog again: “I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process. I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love, and my passion for animals.”

Do you think Michel Vick is ready for the responsibility of owning a dog?

Just don’t let him get a Pitt Bull!

I’ve been asked, and before it’s all over I’ll probably be asked again, what was my involvement in Michael Vick coming to the Eagles. Here’s what I know:

Michael and I have known each other since the time I was asked to host him on his visit to Syracuse University. Anybody that’s ever been through that knows that current college athletes are asked to spend time with possible recruits who are similar or share something in common (play the same position, come from the same part of the country, etc.). During that time, I had a chance to get to know Michael pretty well. And, although he decided to go to Virginia Tech, we kept in touch and remained friends. read full story here
