  • United States senator, representative, territorial delegate, or the resident commissioner from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico: On the day of death and the day after
  • The governor of a state, territory or possession: Day of death until interment
  • The president can also choose to lower a flag whenever the nation is mourning, whether it is after a tragedy or after the death of another official not outlined in the proclamation.

George H.W. Bush Remembered With a “National Day of Morning”

Former United States President, H.W. Bush, the oldest living president, passed away on November 30, 2018 at the the of 94.

Bush, who served as the 41st president from 1981- 1989, suffered from Vascular Parkinsonism, a form of Parkinson’s disease that robbed him of his ability to walk, forcing him to use a motorized scooter or wheelchair since at least 2012. In recent years made it increasingly difficult for him to speak more than a few words at a time. The cause of death was not immediately announced. However, during the last several years, the former president fell ill and was hospitalized.
