Tim Tebow Heisman 2007

On December 8, 2007, Tebow was awarded the Heisman Trophy, finishing ahead of Arkansas’s Darren McFadden, Hawaii’s Colt Brennan, and Missouri’s Chase Daniel. He was the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy.  He garnered 462 first-place votes and 1,957 points, 254 points ahead of the runner-up, Arkansas running back Darren McFadden.  He finished the regular season as the only player in FBS history to rush and pass for at least 20 touchdowns in both categories in the same season. He had 32 passing touchdowns, and 23 rushing touchdowns. Tebow’s rushing TD total in the 2007 season is the most recorded for any position in SEC history.  The total also set the record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in FBS history. Tebow became the third UF player to win the Heisman Trophy, joining Steve Spurrier and Danny Wuerffel.

Tim Tebow Signs with the Patriots

Tebow will enter Tuesday’s minicamp as New England’s third-string QB, behind Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett.

Tim Tebow Scheduled to Appear at the Patriots Mini Camp Tomorrow

Tim Tebow’s career has been in limbo since he was released by the New York Jets on April 29th.

Since then many wondered if the controversial QB was done in the NFL.  Many speculated that Tebow would join the arena football league.

Despite previous rumors otherwise, Tebow is not being tried at tight end, although it would be in Tebow’s best interests to be open to playing any position.

He’s avoided trying tight end in the past.

Obviously, Tebow is not going to be a major threat for playing time behind future Hall of Famer Brady and young, strong-armed backup Mallett.

The Pats may be simply kicking the tires on the former Josh McDaniels draft pick.

Tebow has never failed at any level of football. He was one of the greatest college football players of all time after being a high school legend. He then was a first-round draft pick and helped turn the Denver Broncos around. He led them to a stirring playoff win over the Pittsburgh Steelers with an overtime pass.

Bill Belichick does not hate Tim Tebow

Patriots  head coach Bill Belichick has gone on the record about NFL free agent Tim Tebow.  A  May 9 story published on  Yahoo Sports news quoted a source who said that New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick “hates” Tebow as a player.

Beliche  told sources that he doesn’t hate the former Jets quarterback as a player.  “Every single player has strengths and weaknesses. But regardless of that, for anyone to have represented that is the way I feel about Tim Tebow is completely untrue, baseless and irresponsible,” Belichick said, via ESPN Boston. “It is unfortunate that something so inaccurate was reported.”

Belichick was also asked if the Patriots had any interest in signing Tebow as a free agent and, as Belichick is wont to do, he simply sidestepped the question.

“I wouldn’t get into the probability of us pursuing any free agent,” Belichick said.

You definitely go through a stage, most coaches do, where you see a good player and you get enamored…You really like what the player does, but then when you put him into your system, it’s not quite the same player that he was in another system. He has some strengths, but you can’t utilize all those strengths. If you try to utilize all his strengths, you end up weakening a lot of other players who are already in your system.                         Quote –  Bill Belichick

NFL Off-Season: What Players Are Up To

NFL Off-Season: What Players Are Up To

What goes on in the NFL offseason.

From an Atlanta Falcons $12 million deal to Tim Tebow’s unknown future in football, a few NFL teams will look radically different this upcoming season. You can’t miss out on these high-profile roster changes:

  • The Atlanta Falcons upgraded their backfield and signed Steven Jackson to a three year $12 million deal. After nine productive seasons with the St. Louis Rams, Jackson was considered the top free agent running back, according to ESPN.com. The star running back has rushed for 1,000 yards or more for eight straight seasons. He currently has career totals of 10,135 yards and 56 touchdowns.
  • The Kansas City Chiefs landed a new starting quarterback by taking on Alex Smith who revived his career with the San Francisco 49ers. He has passed for 14,280 yards and 81 touchdowns since being drafted as number one in 2005.
  • Did Tim Tebow’s NFL career end after the New York Jets released the former Heisman winner? Very little interest has been shown in Tebow from NFL teams. But fans remain loyal. “Tebowmania” reached an appex when Jacksonville Jaguars fans petitioned the White House on the “We The People” website to encourage their hometown team to sign the former Florida Gator.

Along with big roster moves, NFL players also made off-season headlines. Read how these three players stepped into the off-season spotlight:

Terrance Ganaway: Sandwich Artist

St. Louis Rams running back Terrance Ganaway gave unconventional a new meaning when he took a job at a sandwich shop. Ganaway jokingly tweeted that he had too much free time and was looking for a job in Waco, Texas – where he played collegiately for Baylor. A local Jimmy John’s franchise offered Ganaway, who made $390,000 last season, a job he accepted. CBS News reported Ganaway earns $7.50 an hour and works three night shifts per week. He told CBS News his job helps him save money and stay out of trouble. Fans can see how those sandwich-making skills help Ganaway on the field this upcoming season, whether fans make it to the Edward Jones Dome or watch at home on a wide-screen HD TV with a Direct2TV.com exclusive sports package.

Robert Griffin III: Master Tweeter

Rehabbing from a nasty knee injury for several months has not robbed Robert Griffin III of his sense of humor or opinions about politics. RGIII entertains fans and media with a series of funny tweets about his rehab. In one tweet, the second-year quarterback poses for a silly photo with actor Morgan Freeman at the premiere of Freeman’s new movie. RGIII also tweeted a large pink giraffe he won at Universal Studios. Tweets about Americans being “held hostage” by tyranny and political correctness have garnered the most attention. Griffin, by all accounts, was referring to talk about his team’s less-offensive name change. Keep tweeting, Griffin!

Titus Young: Violator of the Law

Who knows if Titus Young will appear on another NFL roster. Young played two seasons as a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions before his departure in February. It has since been all downhill for Young. He was arrested twice on May 5 — first for suspicion of DUI and then 14 hours later on suspicion of burglary. The Sporting News reported that Young hopped the fence at a tow yard and tried to steal his impounded car after the DUI arrest. Young was arrested for the third time on May 10 again for burglary. He has pleaded not guilty to eight charges, and as of May 15, was still in jail on a $25,000 bond. Titus Young has kept busy, indeed.
