De Villiers Named USOC Developmental Coach of the Year

USTA News Story

Brian de Villiers of Marietta, Ga., was named United States Olympic Committee Developmental Coach of the Year.

He has 30 years coaching experience and is the Director of both RCS Tennis Academy and the Riverside Club in Atlanta.

De Villiers has traveled and coached extensively on the WTA and ATP tours with several pros ranked in the top 50 in the world (Luke Jensen, Murphy Jensen and Amanda Coetzer, among others).

He is currently coaching Melanie Oudin (No. 1 Girls 18s USTA, No. 2 ITF world junior rankings) and Grace Min (No. 1 Girls 14s USTA). De Villiers’ students won 13 ITF titles and nine National titles in 2007.

As a dedicated coach, he works with both nationally and internationally ranked junior players and focuses on developing their skills to prepare them for collegiate and/or professional careers. Melanie Oudin’s mother Leslie Oudin’s alleged affair with her coach. Leslie Oudin is allegedly having an extramarital affair with her daughter Melanie Oudin’s tennis coach.

The seventeen year tennis sensation is being lauded as the best thing to have happened to the US women tennis.

She defeated top three Russian players back home when nobody knew her and nobody believed she was capable of making any major upsets in the tournament. But she did in style and amazed everyone.

Even her coach did not know that she would be able to stay put in the competition beyond the first week.

This was the reason the young sensation had to leave the hotel and search for another one.

Meanwhile Venus and Serena Williams secured their spot in the women’s doubles semifinals with a 7-5, 6-4 win over the tough team of Yan Zi and Zheng Jie.

The No. 1 seeded team and defending champions Cara Black and Liezel Huber also advanced to the semis with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory over Nuria Llagostera Vives and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.   Read full story here

Seems like the whole world has fallen in love with 17-year old tennis sensation Melanie Oudin. Me too. Tennis’s latest giant-killer is all of 5′6″-tall, just 130 lbs., and is not ashamed to say she has 15-year-old boyfriend. On Monday, Melanie Oudin’s Cinderella story continued with the Georgia native’s upset of 13th-seeded Nadia Petrova.

Oudin, 17, who has already ousted former U.S. Open champ Maria Sharapova and 4th-seeded Elena Dementieva, now advances to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open.

“I didn’t think I started off to well,” she said on TV after her victory on Monday. “I stayed in there with her in the second set . . . and gained my confidence, believing I could do it and I did it.” Read full story here
