The No. 2-ranked Minnesota Vikings (12-4) continue to lead the No. 3-seeded Dallas Cowboys (12-5) 17-3 after three quarters of Sunday’s NFC Divisional Round playoff game at Minnesota.

With 4 minutes, 12 seconds left in the first period, Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre hit receiver Sidney Rice — who made a tough grab with a defender tightly covering him — down the right sideline for a 47-yard touchdown.

In the second quarter, Suisham nailed a 33-yarder to make it a 7-3 contest. However, the Vikings answered right back when the Favre connected again with Rice on a 16-yard pass play.

Vikings vs Cowboys

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

All the Vikings and their fans heard all week, whether it was from the national media or message board trolls or wherever else, was that the Dallas Cowboys were the “hottest team in the NFC.”

Vikings 34  Dallas 3

Correction. . .they WERE the hottest team in the NFC.  Until they ran into a significantly better football team.  That team being the Minnesota Vikings.

“Vikings quarterback Brett Favre threw two touchdowns in the first half. He hit Sidney Rice on a gorgeous 47-yard throw that Cowboys safety Gerald Sensabaugh literally never saw coming.”

Rapid Reaction: Vikings 34, Cowboys 3

Leading up to the game, Cowboys‘ safety Gerald Sensabaugh . . whoever he is. . .declared that the only way the Cowboys could lose would be to beat themselves.  Well, if that was the case, the Cowboys were more self-abusive than a group of emo kids that just spotted a “Going Out of Business” sign at the front of their local Hot Topic right after hearing that Dashboard Confessional was breaking up.  Read full story here

When Lovie Smith went about assembling his first coaching staff in 2004, he pointed to offenses run by Mike Martz in St. Louis and Al Saunders in Kansas City and identified the attacking schemes from the Don Coryell coaching tree as his vision for the Bears.

Brett Favre Makes Vikings Debut

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Associated Press Video Highlights: Star quarterback Brett Favre sees limited action just days after coming out of retirement a second time to sign with Minnesota. See Video below

Favre Debuts for Vikes, Who Beat Chiefs

Camera flashes illuminated the Metrodome on each of Brett Favre’s eight plays for Minnesota. Captured on film? Only one completed pass.

Favre’s debut was a dud in terms of on-field action, a predictably brief preseason performance in the 17-13 victory by the Vikings on Friday over the Kansas City Chiefs preserved by a goal line stand by the third-stringers.

Cheered loudly by the same fans who used to loathe him when he played for Green Bay, Favre played two series and went 1 for 4 for a whopping 4 yards. He moved around all right and his passes had zip, just no direction.

Did Playoff loss Prompt Pursuit of Favre?

Tarvaris Jackson, whose job was taken when Favre ended another retirement this week, was the more polished quarterback for Minnesota: 12 for 15 for 202 yards and two touchdowns.

“I know I can still play, but it’s like I told my wife, I’m just tired mentally. I’m just tired,” Favre, a three-time NFL MVP, told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen in a voice mail message.

“If I felt like coming back — and Deanna [his wife] and I talked about this — the only way for me to be successful would be to win a Super Bowl.
